Keeping Cochrane Healthy

Cochrane is home to nearly 39,000 people and continues to grow rapidly. Yet the town still lacks a 24/7 urgent care centre. Emergencies do not follow office hours, and families cannot plan around limited clinic times. Immediate access to care is essential for safety and peace of mind.
Protecting lives in our community
Access to urgent care is a matter of life and death. Too many residents have shared stories of people harmed because care was unavailable when it was needed most. One young girl might still be alive today if urgent care had been accessible overnight. Every day without 24/7 care puts families, seniors, and children at risk.
Many seniors have chosen Cochrane for their retirement, contributing to the town’s growth and community spirit. For them, minutes can make the difference between recovery and tragedy. Ensuring continuous urgent care is both a health necessity and a responsibility to those who have given so much to our town.
Reducing strain on Calgary’s hospitals
Without local urgent care, residents often must travel to Calgary’s already overburdened emergency rooms. This delays treatment for Cochranites and adds stress to the broader healthcare system. A local 24/7 centre would provide timely access and reduce unnecessary pressure on neighbouring facilities.
A clear path forward
If elected, I will make 24/7 urgent care a top priority. I will advocate for provincial support and, if necessary, explore practical alternatives such as partnerships with Alberta Health Services, collaboration with nearby hospitals, or community-supported models to ensure families always have access to care.
Fairness and community responsibility
Cochrane residents pay their share in provincial taxes and deserve timely medical care. Families, seniors, and children should not be left waiting or forced to travel out of town. Ensuring 24/7 urgent care is a matter of fairness and respect for our community.
Strengthening Cochrane for the future
Reliable, around-the-clock urgent care enhances safety, supports seniors, and gives families confidence in the community. By acting now, Cochrane can become a healthier, safer town where urgent medical services are available whenever they are needed.
